Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, an anti-tax lobby group, is trying to deflect criticisms directed at him, from Democrats, about the failure of the super committee to come to an agreement on how to trim the the deficit.

Norquist, as quoted in a cnn.com story, says:

“For the congressmen and senators who signed the taxpayer protection pledge, they and the American people know the pledge is from them to the voters of their district and their state.”

This is, pardon our language, a crock of shit.

Norquist and his organization came up with their “pledge” back in 1986 and since that time, he continues to hold congressmen and senators hostage to the pledge. Let our elected leaders handle their own “pledges” with their constituents.

Another Grover Norquist we found:

My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub.

His goal. Why do we need to care what he thinks or wants? He’s welcome to participate in the political process but he needs to get over thinking he owns it or should be steering it.

Just a reminder:

Newt is the only candidate to resign his leadership position as Speaker of the House while simultaneously stepping down from his seat as Georgia’s Representative. In fact, he’s the only Speaker of the House to ever resign in disgrace – ever. It’s one thing to impress NH with his surface-level eloquence in a debate, but would Georgians vote for him again?

Heaven forbid they leave well enough alone. I guess when your party’s national candidate won’t win your own state, you do what you can to make things challenging for the other party.

This is another example of why people need to pay closer attention to goings-on in their own states.

Michelle Bachmann recently announced she is running for the Republican nomination for President in the upcoming 2012 elections.

This is fantastic news. Another woman enters the race, to provide some texture to a rather bland field of Republican candidates.

However, for any of you expecting a more motherly approach to dealing with LGBT matters, guess again.

Mother Jones has an excellent piece that looks at a rash of teen suicides in a Minnesota school district in Michelle’s congressional district, and Michelle’s silence on the matter. Some of these unfortunate teens were reported to have been gay or were assumed to be by classmates, and found themselves subject to bullying, with no outlet through the schools for help.

The piece goes on to detail the limitations placed on teachers to help students deal with such serious issues and Bachmann’s support of organizations in her district that oppose anti-gay bullying support for students.

Is this a person you want in the White House?
